Singapore
I made it to Singapore at 1am this morning after more that 24hours of flying. Held up surprisingly well except for some ankle edema for the first time in my life. Got some sleep then went out to explore. Singapore is very clean, as is its reputation, but certainly not sterile. And if you love exotic food, look no further. I wanted to try a small local place. I saw and Indian restaurant that looked inviting but I was joining those who just finished the first 5 weeks of the mission for Indian food later so I skipped it despite the large, enticing sign advertising "fish head curry". I stopped at another place that looked interesting and that advertised mostly seafood and vege stuff. They loaded my plate with sauteed greens, sauteed eggplant, tofu with veges, fish with veges, and potato curry. Can I say fantastic! The bill including my lime juice drink was $6(a latte later at Starbucks cost me more). Tonight I met the group that just finished their 5 weeks. They seemed like a really great group and sorry they are leaving. It was great to meet them and hear their stories. Tomorrow we head out to the ship but still have a few days before leaving port. Great, I can eat my way around Singapore and then experience the 4th of July on a Navy ship.
